GetResponse Review: Best ClickFunnels Alternative?

There you there are many email marketing services out there for you to promote your business, but choosing the right one isn’t always easy when you have so much choice!

The GetReponse marketing automation software is a great choice, but do you need all of the features that they offer?

In this Get Response review, I’m going to take you through:

  • What is GetResponse
  • GetResponse features
  • GetResponse functionality
  • GetResponse mobile apps
  • GetResponse pricing plans
  • GetResponse integrations
  • GetResponse customer support
  • GetResponse affiliate program
  • GetResponse pros and cons
  • GetResponse alternatives
  • GetResponse review conclusion

At the end of my review of GetResponse, I hope I will have helped you to decide if they are the right email marketing tool for you and your company needs.

If you’re ready, let’s get to it.

What Is GetResponse

GetResponse Logo

GetResponse, based in Gdansk Poland, is an all-in-one online marketing service. They used to be just an email marketing platform and were considered by many to be the best in the business.

However, they recently expanded the services that they offer, so you are now able to:

  • Build landing pages
  • Build sales funnels
  • Host webinars
  • Create mailing lists
  • Create newsletters to send to your mailing lists
  • Create a fully automated workflow
  • Email marketing
  • CRM – Customer Relationship Management
  • Facebook ads
  • Integrations
  • Mobile apps
  • 24/7 customer support
  • Affiliate program

Plus much more.

GetResponse Features

GetResponse Automation Builder

GetResponse Workflow Example

As this is the primary focus of GetResponse I have to start here. This one feature is where GetResponse wins over everyone else I’ve tried previously.

You simply pick which element you want to place within the automation, drag it to where you want it on your screen, and then link it to the previous element or elements.

This is the stand out feature of GetResponse and is why I subscribed to them in the first place. The automation sequences you can build are so simple to create yet can be as complex as you like.

It’s a shame the rest of the features they offer aren’t as good as the GetResponse autoresponder.

GetResponse Sales Funnel Builder

GetResponse Conversion Funnel Logo

Conversion Funnel is the new name for GetResponse Autofunnel.

You use Conversion Funnel to build your landing pages and sales funnel, and it really couldn’t be simpler.

Conversion Funnel asks you; “What do you want your funnel to do?” The options are:

Build a list:

GetResponse build A List Funnel Options

Sell a product:

GetResponse Sell A Product Funnel Options

Promote a webinar:

GetResponse Host A Webinar Funnel Options

You simply click on the Create button for whichever funnel you’d like to build, give your funnel a name, and then select a template for each page within your funnel.

I love the simplicity of this feature. Like ClickFunnels there’s no complicated HTML or CSS coding to learn, but the templates offered to you are nowhere near as good as those available on ClickFunnels.

You also have the option of creating your own pages from scratch, but again, this is nowhere near as good, or easy to do, as it is with ClickFunnels.

GetResponse Landing Page Builder

Just like the sales funnel builder, it’s pretty simple to use. Yes it’s drag & drop, yes you can use 180 pre-built templates, and yes you’ve got a full range of colors and fonts, but this feature is far better on ClickFunnels.

My main gripe of the GetResponse landing page creator is that you are restricted to a certain amount of space to create your landing page:

GetResponse Landing Page Example

The designer will only let you add images and text to the central column area, you cannot go any lower or wider.

With the ClickFunnels page builder, you have totally free reign as to how wide and long you want to make your landing pages.

GetResponse Email Templates

GetResponse Email Templates

The GetResponse templates for your emails are superb, with 220 being available to you.

Sure, other competitions have more, but 220 is more than enough and they are all fully customizable and have an extensive range of fonts to choose from for your text.

All emails you create with GetResponse are fully responsive, meaning they automatically adjust to the type of screen they’re being displayed on.

No matter whether that’s a computer screen, a tablet, or a smart phone, your emails will look great.

GetResponse A/B Split Testing

A B Split Testing

If you’re unsure as to what A/B Split testing is, I’ll explain.

Let’s say you’ve got a product to advertise in your email campaigns and you’ve come up with two completely different sets of advert copy (Two images, two headlines, two sets of wording, etc) for that product, advert A and advert B.

Your A/B Split Test will mix and match your images, headlines, and wording together to form several different adverts. These are called ad sets.

If you have a large email list you can select to send a test to say 10% of that list and analyze your report data to see which ad set was more engaging with your audience before sending the most engaging ad copy to the remainder of your list.

That’s just one example, options for running an A/B Split Test are almost limitless.

With GetResponse you can add up to five different versions of your ad copy across all plans.

Reporting

Analytics Report

Data reporting is where you find out how well your email campaigns are doing.

I’m quite sure you don’t want to be wasting your time working on an unsuccessful email campaign, I know I certainly don’t, so this is a vital function that you need to analyze and understand.

GetResponse analytics are excellent. The level of detail you can track ranges from the number of emails sent, open rates, link clicks, to drilling right down to a particular individual on your list, the date they signed up, their IP Address, how many emails they have opened, number of times they’ve clicked your links, etc.

Email Segmentation

Email Segmentation

Email segmentation is where you can divide people who are on your email lists into smaller lists, known as segments.

As an example, let’s say you run an online pet store, you can segment your customers into dog owners, cat owners, fish owners, etc.

There are practically an unlimited amount of ways you can segment your customers, a lot of which comes down to your particular type of business.

The GetResponse segmentation options go to a whole other level without paying a premium for it, unlike some of GetResponse’s competition.

Let’s say your business is a pet store, and you’ve already put a segment into your email list to separate dog owners, you can segment dog owners even further ie; Chihuahua owners, Labrador owners, St Bernard owners, etc.

If you got a new dog harness in your inventory that fits a St Bernard, you wouldn’t want to waste your time advertising that to someone with a Chihuahua, would you?

Facebook Ads

Did you know you can run social media ads on Facebook from within your GetResponse account? You do now.

Another feature of the GetResponse Facebook integration is that you can upload your email lists into Facebook Ads Manager for them to create lookalike audiences for your Facebook Ads campaign.

One piece of advice here, make sure you comply fully with GDPR at all times so you avoid any potential legal issues. If in doubt, speak with a legal professional first.

GetResponse Functionality

I have found GetResponse to be easy to use and the user interface to be laid out very well.

Your main GetResponse dashboard can be fully customized how you like it. This is the default appearance:

GetResponse Dashboard

It’s smart, laid out well, and be customized with whatever information widgets you want to have shown there.

There’s also an option to add more widgets if you wish to add any more from the widget library:

GetResponse widget library

The GetResponse dashboard menu bar has three areas for you to work with. At the top left is Menu:

Clicking on Menu gives you access to:

  • Email marketing
  • Autoresponders
  • Automation
  • Webinars
  • Conversion funnel
  • Landing pages
  • Forms and surveys
  • Facebook Ads
  • Stores and products
  • Integrations and API
  • Mobile apps
  • Files and images

GetResponse menu drop-down menu

At the center of the dashboard menu bar, you have Lists, Reports, Drafts, and Create

GetResponse lists, reports, drafts, and create menu

Lists

Takes you to, you’ve guessed it, your list of email lists.

Reports

One of the more important tools. You can see how many emails have been sent, how many were delivered, how many were opened, how many link clicks you got if you had links in your emails and more.

Drafts

This is a list of your draft emails. This is one thing that annoys me with GetResponse. When you create a new email message you create it as a draft, which is fair enough, and it remains set as a draft until you add that message to any of your email automation. However, once you’ve added to an email automation sequence you end up with 2 copies of the same email, a draft version, and an in-use version. Go figure!

Create

Clicking on Create gives you options to create:

  • Newsletters
  • Autoresponders
  • Landing pages
  • Forms
  • Funnels

GetResponse create menu options

The top right of the dashboard is where you can access notifications, help, and your account settings:

Notification Bell

As with ClickFunnels, this is where any important notifications will appear. GetResponse will also notify you when they have new help articles on their blog which they think may be of help to you, such as:

Getresponse notification example

Help

The middle icon is the help section. Here you can get help with:

  • Email customer support
  • Your support tickets (any issues you may have raised with GetResponse)
  • Live chat with customer support
  • Help center
  • List building program
  • Marketplace
  • Marketing toolkit

Getresponse help drop-down menu

My Account

On the My Account icon you can access:

  • Upgrade your account
  • Manage account
  • Billing details
  • Team
  • Refer a friend
  • Affiliate program
  • Log out

GetResponse My Account menu

I’ll tell you about the Refer a Friend option in the affiliate program section later in this article.

So there you have it, a nice, smart, customizable user interface. I’ve just left the default setup as it is, it’s already got everything I need on there, but there’s the option of changing things if you wish.

GetResponse Mobile Apps

GetResponse offers you four apps for your mobile devices.

GetResponse Pricing Plans

There are 4 GetResponse pricing plans to choose from:

  1. Basic
  2. Plus
  3. Professional
  4. Max

If you’re looking for the GetResponse free account, then I am going to disappoint you, as there is no GetResponse free plan.

If you’re looking for free email marketing tools and would like a GetResponse free alternative then I have the following articles which you may be interested in:

GetResponse Free Trial

All 4 GetResponse plans come with a 30 day free trial. An extra bonus of this is you don’t need to enter any credit card details when you sign up.

You get full functionality for 30 days, and if you’re not happy at the end of your trial you don’t have to speak to someone to cancel your GetResponse account, it just stops working until you enter in your payment details.

So, that’s 30 days of full functionality 100% risk-free.

Get Your 30 Day GetResponse Trial Order Button

Anyone searching for the GetResponse 60 day trial, again more bad news, there is no GetResponse 60 days free trial.

The only way you could get an extended GetResponse trial would be to register for a 2nd 30 day trial with a separate email address after your initial trial period ends. If you do this, please be aware that you will not be able to access any of your campaigns, contacts, sales funnels, etc, that you set up in your initial 30 day trial period.

GetResponse Monthly Pricing Chart

GetResponse Discount

GetResponse does allow you to pay upfront for a full 12 or 24 months to get a discount.

Paying upfront for 12 months gives you an 18% discount:

GetResponse Annual Pricing Chart

Paying upfront for 24 months gives you a 30% discount:

GetResponse Bi-Annual Pricing

All prices quoted above are for just 1,000 contacts. If you increase your contacts above 1,000 your subscription will increase.

These charts I created show you how much your cost will increase depending on the number of contacts you have and the plan you are subscribing to.

Paying Monthly

GetResponse monthly subscription cost chart

Paying Annually Monthly Cost

GetResponse paying annually price chart

Don’t forget to multiply the monthly amount by 12 so you know how much you will pay out upfront.

Paying Bi-Annually Monthly Cost

GetResponse paying bi-annually price chart

Again, remember to multiply the monthly amount shown by 24 to work out how much you will be paying upfront.

GetResponse Refund Policy

While that’s all well and good paying upfront to save money, it’s also worth pointing out here that GetResponse operates a no refund policy.

Let’s say you’re on the Plus plan and have paid $482.16 upfront for a 12 months subscription, then 6 months in you want to cancel your account for whatever reason, you will not be refunded for the remaining 6 months that you have left to run.

GetResponse Integrations

GetResponse Integrations

There are a total of 150 different integrations you can do with GetResponse, including some of the biggest names in the market:

  • BlueSnap
  • ClickBank
  • ClickFunnels
  • Facebook
  • Shopify
  • PayPal
  • PayU
  • Square
  • Stripe
  • Twitter

You can find a complete list of GetResponse integrations and instructions on how to get your GetRespopnse API key should you need it.

I also have a few GetResponse integration guides on my blog:

GetResponse Customer Support

Cartoon person leanong against a red customer support button

GetResponse has 24/7 live online chat and 24/7 email support in 8 languages, via their Contact Support webpage.

They are able to provide you with support in the following languages:

  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Polish
  • Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Spanish

On the odd occasion that I’ve had to contact GetResponse for support, they have been superb.

One example was the problem I was having connecting GetResponse to ClickFunnels. GetResponse Customer Service told me what the problem was and what they were going to do to solve it. The problem was actually at ClickFunnels’ end, however, it’s GetResponse offered me the solution to my problem and fair play to them for doing so.

GetResponse Affiliate Program

Affiliate Program

Yes, GetResponse has an affiliate program so you can earn extra income from recommending their services to friends and/or clients.

GetResponse Affiliates can choose to earn either a one-off $100 bounty payment or a 33% recurring payment whilst your lead subscribes to GetResponse.

You are not automatically enrolled in the affiliate program when you sign up for an account, you have to apply separately.

Becoming a GetResponse affiliate is easy, just follow my step by step guide included in my GetResponse affiliate program review. You’ll also find instructions on how to find your GetResponse affiliate link

All affiliate payments are paid monthly via PayPal.

GetResponse also has a refer a friend option. This works similar to the affiliate program, but it’s not as good. If you refer a friend to GetResponse and they sign up, GetResponse will apply a $30 credit to your account (and your friends’ account) which will come off your next bills. As long you’ve joined the GetResponse affiliate program you can earn a $100 commission by getting your friend to sign up, so why would you go for the $30 credit each? Even if you split your $100 commission 50/50 with your friend, that’s still $50 each right?

GetResponse Alternatives

GetResponse fares pretty well when comparing the basic entry-level plans:

  • GetResponse costs $15 for 1, 000 contacts
  • AWeber has a free plan for up to 500 contacts or $19 for 500 contacts on the Pro plan
  • CovertKit also has a free plan for up to 1,000 costs or their Creator plan starts at $29 for 1,000 contacts
  • MadMimi costs $12 for 1,000 contacts
  • MailChimp also has a very limited free plan for up to 2, 000 subscribers, or their Essential plan costs from $9.99 per month for just 500 contacts
  • ClickFunnels you need to be on the Platinum Plan at $297 per month to use Follow-Up Funnels, however, you get unlimited contacts and email sending, and your price is fixed.

While there may be cheaper GetResponse competitors out there, I’m a huge believer in the old adage you get what you pay for.

GetResponse Review Conclusion: Is GetResponse Good?

Yes, very good.

The GetResponse email marketing software really is a great platform for your business, it has everything you need all in one place, and all for a very competitive monthly cost.

With a 30 day no credit card required free trial why don’t you give them a try?

Get Your 30 Day GetResponse Trial Order Button

That being said, I prefer to use platforms that are the best at one specific thing, rather than using a jack of all trades. I find ClickFunnels to be far better than GetResponse for building sales funnels, as it’s a much simpler system to use.

If you don’t mind the extra expense, my recommendation would be to use ClickFunnels for your sales funnels and landing pages and use GetResponse to take care of your email automation service.

If you’d like to read my review of ClickFunnels, please see this article: What Is ClickFunnels?

If you do choose to use both platforms, I have the following article to show you how to integrate them: How To Integrate GetResponse With ClickFunnels

If you’re a small business and you only require a landing page builder and email autoresponder, then AWeber would be my No.1 choice of GetResponse alternative.

They have a totally free to use account so you could give them a trial alongside GetResponse and see who works out best for you.
